Associate Dean Mruk selected to participate in City Move INTERDESIGN WORKSHOP Sweden
Posted: Wednesday, December 31, 1969 7 p.m.

An interdesign is a two-week workshop where an international team of interdisciplinary designers and professionals come together to work collaboratively on a predetermined issue of regional and/or international significance. A host country identifies a particular problem specific to their country whose solution is applicable in other international contexts.

City Move Interdesign examined socially responsible design methods to create new spaces for people. In the northern part of Sweden the mining industry continues to expand and, in certain areas, the ground is crumbling under entire cities. This poses enormous challenges to the survival of such cities and may force their populations to relocate. This project utilized interdisciplinary designers from 20 different countries to look at socially responsible design methods to create new spaces for people.

The results and documentation from the workshop will become a part of a knowledge bank showing how the process could be used in not only in Sweden but also how it can be adapted and implemented in similar areas around the world. The exhibition will travel from Stockholm to Shanghai. A documentary on the interdesign workshop will be out this fall.
