Professors Charles Matz, and Jonathan Dillon were listed as curator and panel moderators at the AIA discussion on “Shapeshifting.” Shapeshifting, the emerging role of three-dimensional printing in contemporary studio practice and design. The manufacturing and production of scale models and exotic shapes have taken center stage as viable generators of design rules; the REAL inexorably, and without precedent, linked to the VIRTUAL. The impact of this important technology, its generation of form from virtual models, and the potential of its expanding role in design practice was the subject of the roundtable /panel discussion. This discussion took place on Thursday, June 11, 2009 at The Center for Architecture.
