Outstanding Achievement in Adjunct Teaching was awarded to Dr. Basilio Monteiro
Dr. Basilio Monteiro has been teaching in the Communication Arts department for nineteen consecutive years. He has taught on all three campuses on both the graduate and undergraduate levels. Currently a full-time faculty member and assistant to the chair of communications department at St. John's University, Basilio speaks several languages, is a certified counselor, and is an expert in international communications.
Outstanding Achievement in Scholarship or Creative Expression was awarded to Dr. Luis Navia
Dr. Luis Navia joined NYIT 39 years ago. He serves as professor of philosophy and chair of the Old Westbury campus department of social sciences. He is the author of 19 books, some of which have been translated into German, Greek, Portuguese, Japanese and other languages. His scholarly soul is like a well without a bottom. His book Diogenes-The Cynic , published last year by Humanity Books, won rave reviews. And The Adventure of Philosophy , which has been called an engaging volume that explores the most important issues that have absorbed philosophers over the past 25 centuries, has inspired students and scholars as well.
