CW Post Defeats NYIT 72-68
Brookville, NY: The C.W.
Post Lady Pioneers defeated the NYIT Lady Bears 72-68 in a NYCAC conference
match-up today. NYIT falls to 10-11 on the season, 9-9 in the NYCAC, while C.W.
Post improves to 8-11 overall, 8-10 in the conference.
Georgia Gordon (St. Ann, Jamaica) scored a
game high 23 points and grabbed a game high 19 rebounds.
Christina Papdapoulou
(Nicosia, Cyprus) contributed
with 19 points and four assists and Tamika Cox (Long Island City, NY) added 12 points, six rebounds and teo blocks in the loss
NYIT took one brief early
lead during the first half, but Post used the three-pointer as a weapon to take
a 36-25 halftime advantage. Thalia Jackson nailed
three bombs during the opening 20 minutes, while Sheila Jackson made the most
of her two minutes on the floor in the first half by connecting on a pair and
drilling three foul shots after being fouled beyond the three-point line.
Post had held a 47-33 lead
following a layup by Danielle Heffel
with 15:09 to go in the game, but NYIT charged back to tie the game twice at 53
and 55 over the next eight minutes. Heffel then
scored five straight points and Jackson added a pair of free throws with 5:08 to play to give the Lady Pioneers
the lead for good.
The Lady Bears got within
four at 64-60 after two free throws from Tamika Cox
with 3:06 left, and made things interesting following Christina Papadopoulou's three-pointer with 13 seconds to play that
sliced the margin to three points at 71-68. However, Thalia
Jackson was fouled immediately following that basket and split a pair of free
throws to provide the final score of the game.
NYIT returns to action this
Wednesday, February 12, when they host Dowling College at 5:00pm.
