NYIT Drops 72-62 Decision To

Westbury, NY: Dowling’s Mary Kacic scored a game high 23 points and led the Lady Golden Lions to a 72-62 victory over NYIT in New York Collegiate Athletic Conference action tonight. The loss drops NYIT to 10-12 on the season, 9-10 in the NYCAC. With the victory, the conferences top team improves to 18-4 overall, and an impressive 17-2 in the conference.

The Lady Bears were down only four, 34-30, at halftime and surviving a barrage of Dowling three pointers. The Lady Golden Lions hit seven in the first half, including four from Laura Mullally, who finished the half with 13 points. Dowling built a 58-50 lead midway through the second half after nailing four consecutive three pointers, two from Zulmary Andino-Balbonia, one from Kacic and one from Jackie Lucas. NYIT responded with a 10-2 run to tie the game at 60-60 with just over six minutes remaining in the game. However Kacic would convert on six consecutive free throws down the stretch and Andino-Balbonia scored five points in the last five minutes to extend their lead.

Georgia Gordon (St. Ann, Jamaica) finished with 18 points and 18 rebounds and Christina Papadapoulou (Nicosia, Cyprus) scored 18 points to lead the Lady Bears.

The Lady Bears return to action this Saturday, February 15 when they travel to Concordia College for a 1:30 pm game.
