Lady Bears Defeat Mercy College 57-44 In Home Opener

Gordon Nets Third Double-Double In As Many Games

Old Westbury, NY: Sophomore Georgia Gordon (St. Anne, Jamaica) recorded her third double-double of the season. She scored a game high 16 points, grabbed game high 15 rebounds and added five steals as NYIT improved to 3-1 on the season, 1-0 in the NYCAC Conference. The loss drops Mercy to 1-3 on the year, 1-2 in the conference.

The Lady Bears opened up a 33-20 halftime lead behind 10 points from senior Christina Papadopoulouo (Cypress, Greece) and eight from Gordon. NYIT extended their lead to as many as 17 points early in the second half and held on for the 13 point victory.

Nicole Steinburg and Faith Johnson led Mercy with 11 and 10 points respectively.

The Lady Bears return to action this Thursday, December 5 when they travel to the University of New Haven for a 5:30 pm start.
