Molloy Defeats NYIT 78-70
Rockville Centre, NY: The Molloy College Lady Lions (2-6, 2-4 NYCAC)
snapped a six-game losing streak with a 78-70 victory over the New York
Institute of Technology. The loss is the third straight for NYIT, and they
dropped to 4-5 on the season, 3-3 NYCAC.
The Lady Lions played their
best half of the season in the first-half and built up a 42-21 lead at
halftime. The Bears came out in the second half and slowly chipped away at the
lead. Tamika Cox (Long
Island City, NY) and Georgia
Gordon (St. Ann, Jamaica) teamed up to lead NYIT in the comeback. Cox scored
19 of her game high 25 points while Gordon grabbed 13 of her game high 17
rebounds and scored 20 of her 22 points all in the second half. NYIT cut the
lead to as little as three points at 69-66 with under a minute, but Molloy hit
9-10 of its free throws down the stretch, including 6-6 by Kara Sheehan (Waterford, NY), to
expand the lead and win the game by the eight-point margin.
The Lady Bears return to
action this Saturday, January 8th, when they travel to Dowling College for a 5:00pm start.
