NYIT Defeats Queens 70-52 In Season Final
Queens, NY:
The New York Institute of Technology defeated Queens
College 70-52 in the Lady Bears
season final. NYIT (12-15, 11-13 NYCAC) capped off their best season in the
last four years with the victory, and earned their first trip to the NYCAC
Tournament since 1991.
Georgia Gordon (St. Ann, Jamaica)
recorded her 23rd double-double of the season, scoring a game high
21 points and grabbing a game high 11 rebounds. Christina Papadapoulou (Nicosia,
Cyprus) and Lindsay
Klimkowski (Syosset, NY)
chipped in with 12 and 10 points respectively in the victory.
The game was tied 34-34 at the half, but behind stellar
defense, NYIT outscored Queens 36-18 in the second stanza.
The Lady bears defense held the Lady Knights to five field goals and a 16.9 shooting
percentage from the floor.
Erin Dollard led Queens with 15
points in the loss for Queens.
The Lady Bears return to action this Tuesday, March 4th
in the first round of the NYCAC Playoffs. NYIT will travel to the St. Thomas
Aquinas College, who earned the second seed in the tournament, for a 7:30 p.m. game.
