NYIT Upsets St. Thomas Aquinas College 65-61 For Third Straight Victory

Old Westbury, NY: The New York Institute of Technology Lady Bears (7-7, 6-5 NYCAC) upset the St Thomas Aquinas College Lady Spartans (9-2 NYCAC) 65-61 for their third straight victory. The Lady Spartans came into the game atop the NYCAC conference with a record of 9-1.

 

After trailing by as many as 14 points in the first half and by 10 midway through the second half, NYIT went on a 15-1 run to tie the game at 44 with just over 10 minutes remaining. They took their first lead of the game on their next possession and never relinquished the lead. Christina Papadapoulou (Cypress, Nicosia) scored a game high 21 points as three Lady Bears scored in double figures. Georgia Gordon (St. Ann, Jamaica) scored 17 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, doing most of her damage in the second half. Sophomore Tamika Cox (Long Island City, NY) scored all 13 of her points in the second half as the Lady bears score 29 of the games final 41 points.
