NYIT Defeats University of Bridgeport 70-60

Old Westbury, NY: Sophomore Georgia Gordon (St. Anne, Jamaica) recorded her fourth double-double of the season as NYIT defeated Bridgeport 70-60 tonight in a New York Collegiate Athletic Conference match-up. Gordon grabbed a season high 22 rebounds and scored 15 points as NYIT improved to 3-1 on the season, 2-0 in the conference.

 

The Lady Bears held a 33-26 lead heading into halftime and increased it to 17, 50-33, with just over 10 minutes. Gordon and senior Christina Papadopoulouo (Cypress, Greece) each scored seven of their 15 points in the second half to help NYIT fend off a Bridgeport comeback, that saw them cut the deficit to just seven with 3:03 remaining.

 

Freshman Eboni Williams (Queens Village, NY) hit three of four free throws with less than a minute remaining to give the Lady Bears some breathing room. Williams also chipped in with 12 rebounds.

 

Shalonda Hill led Bridgeport with 15 points and Aliyah Miles and Jaimy Sebald each added 10 points in the loss.

 

The Lady Bears return to action this Tuesday, December 10 when they travel to the Adelphi University for a 5:30 pm start.
