NYIT Falls To University of New Haven 52-51

Old Westbury, NY: The New York Institute of Technology Lady Bears dropped a 52-51 decision to the University of New Haven toady at Recreation Hall. The loss drops NYIT to 9-9 on the season, 8-7 in the NCYAC Conference. The victory improves UNH 10 12-6 overall, 1-4 in the conference.

 

The Lady Charges built a 29-23 halftime advantage behind 13 points from Kim Saxton. They extended their lead to seven, 37-30, with just over 13 minutes remaining in the second half.  Over the next seven minutes NYIT put together a 10-3 run to tie the game at 40-40. The Lady Bears took their first lead of the game on a Tamika Cox (Long Island City, NY) lay-up and then extended their lead to five on a three pointer by Christina Papadapoulou (Nicosia, Cyprus). Saxton responded for UNH with four consecutive points to cut NYIT’s lead to one and then UNH regained the lead for good on a three pointer by Cassandra Pelissier.

 

Papadapoulou scored a team high 16 points and dished out seven assists. Georgia Gordon (St. Ann, Jamaica) grabbed a game high 15 rebounds and chipped in with 12 points and Cox finished with 11 points and four blocks.

 

Saxton led UNH with a game high 17 points and teammate Jill Angotta recorded a double-double, scoring 10 points and grabbing 10 rebounds in the victory.

 

The Lady Bears return to action Tuesday, February 4 when they travel to the University of Bridgeport
