Childhood Education
Bachelor of Science

Program Description

Teachers affect eternity; they can never tell where their influence stops. š Henry Adams, Historian

The undergraduate Childhood Education program develops teacher candidates' knowledge, skills, and personal traits for teaching and learning. It leads to a bachelor's degree and initial teacher certification in New York State. Graduates are prepared to work as teachers in grades 1 through 6. The program includes study in a field of interest, professional education, and clinical practice. The clinical component begins early in the program with field experiences in local schools and develops teaching skills through observation, one-on-one, small group, and whole class activities, and culminates with a full semester of student teaching. The program is designed to prepare teacher candidates to meet the needs of children in a changing society. It integrates instructional technology with a broad range of teaching strategies that address the learners' interests and needs.
