Master of Science in Childhood Education

Admission Requirements

Candidates must have:

  • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major or its equivalent (a minimum of 30 credits in a concentration) in one of the following areas: Biology, Chemistry, Economics, English, History, Life Science, Mathematics, Physics, or Psychology.
  • A minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0. (Candidates with GPA under 3.0 may be admitted under special circumstances. Call 516.686.7777 for information.)
  • Completed the general education core required for childhood education certification by successfully taking college-level courses in English (6 credits), social studies (6 credits), science (6 credits), mathematics (6 credits), a language other than English (6 credits), and a form of creative expression (3 credits). (Otherwise, qualified candidates may be admitted to the program and make up deficits in general education in one or two areas.)
  • Provided evidence of a passing score on the Liberal Arts and Sciences Test (LAST) of the New York State Teacher Certification Examination. (Candidate may be conditionally admitted pending reciept of passing score. For information on the LAST. visit www.nystce.nesinc.com )
