Personal Statement
Candidates are required to submit an essay as part of the application.
The personal statement must be between 500 – 1,000 words
and should address the following three short answer questions.
- Why do you want to become a teacher?
- The most important responsibility of a teacher is to ensure high academic achievement for all students. Describe a skill or ability you have that will help you reach your goal. Provide an example of how you have effectively used this skill or ability in the past.
- Have you had any volunteer or employment experience working with children and/or young adults in high-need or other communities? If so, please describe your experiences briefly.
This personal statement provides us with information not captured
elsewhere in the application. This should not be a general philosophy of teaching
but should offer insight on why you are applying to teach. Candidates should
complete the personal statement in a separate word processing document and either
upload or copy and paste it when completing the online application form.
