English Major: Drama Concentration

|
|
The English
Department's concentration in Drama combines a broad literary
and theoretical foundation with a unique practical workshop
approach to theatre. Beginning with the Art of Drama, students
study the historical and cultural traditions of dramatic literature.
Students then take 15 credits, choosing from a wide range
of more specialized dramatic literature courses including
Shakespeare, Modern Drama, and seminars devoted to specific
areas of dramatic literature.
|
| In conjunction
with various literary studies, the English major concentrating
in drama will have the opportunity to work on all aspects of
theatrical productions in the department's Theatre Workshop
program. Students earn academic credit while helping to design
and build sets, make costumes, plan publicity, and perform in
the department's two productions each year. In addition, students
in their last two years of study can work with NYIT's resident
professional acting company, A
Small Company in America. This group stages four plays a
year, including an annual "Shakespeare in the Park" production. |
