Areas of Scholarly and Artistic Interest:
James has finished 24 images in his Asian Series of screened monoprint and a
subset of Asian objects. He has also designed a stone gateway and fountain
for a city in Texas, construction to be completed in 2004.
Career Summary:
James earned his BA from Tulane University in 1967 in English and Studio Art.
He earned his MFA from Pratt in painting, new forms, and art history under
George McNeil. James has taught painting, drawing, printmaking, and art
history at the Philadelphia College of Art, New York University, and New York
Institute of Technology. He makes art at his Tribeca studio. His exhibitions
have been reviewed and documented in over 34 publications, most recently in Art News. His work has been collected in many public and corporate collections, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Library of the Whitney Museum of Art, Museum of the Rhode Island School of Design, the Library of Congress, Fitzwilliam Museum of Cambridge University, Rutgers University, Cleveland Center for Contemporary Art, Parrish Art Museum, and Time Warner.
