Welcome to the department of clinical nutrition

The department of clinical nutrition offers an undergraduate degree program (Bachelor of Science) in nutrition science and a graduate degree program (Master of Science) in clinical nutrition. Both programs are available at the Old Westbury campus.

Clinical nutrition is concerned with therapeutic uses for nutrition, usually in medical settings as part of a complete health care program. Clinical nutritionists and registered dieticians create effective nutrition plans that work toward health outcomes such as disease prevention and treatment, strengthening of the immune system and nourishment of those unable to care for themselves. Clinical nutrition specialists must have expertise in human anatomy and physiology, behavioral sciences and outcomes assessment.

Your future

The health care community recognizes nutrition as an important part of therapeutic medical practice; therefore, career opportunities are expected to grow in the coming decade. Your NYIT degree will prepare you to work in such settings as hospitals, community health centers and schools. You’ll also be prepared for professional certification and post-graduate study in the field and related health care fields.
