Doctor of Physical Therapy Program

NYIT's physical therapy  graduate program provides entry-level professional education. The program is a 3 + 3 model allowing for three years of pre-professional courses and a three-year professional phase. The program will grant a Bachelor of Science degree in life sciences and a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT). Students who already possess a bachelors degree and the specific required prerequisites can apply directly to the professional phase of the program contingent on space availability. The physical therapy program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) of the American Physical Therapy Association.

What is Physical Therapy?
Physical therapy promotes optimal human health and function through the application of scientific principles to prevent, identify, assess, correct or alleviate acute or prolonged movement dysfunctions. Physical therapy encompasses areas of specialized competence and includes the development of new principles and applications to more effectively meet existing and emerging health needs. Other professional activities that serve the purpose of physical therapy are research, education, consultation and administration.
