The National Academies Press offers over 3,700
free full text online books, studies and technical reports in the areas
of natural science, education and technology. Some of these are of quite
recent publication dates. One can browse by broad subject areas, focus
on specific topics using their "discovery" search engine (the
search options are rather basic), link to "titles like this one"
and also search within the texts of individual books as within NetLibrary.
One can also purchase the books online--if one is really interested
in a topic, it may make sense to buy the copy rather than wrestle with
it on the computer screen.
