NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine Medical Library staff welcome and congratulate the class of 2017. The Medical library's website, is your gateway to available online resources, journal holdings and much more. The library's newsletter and latest updates will be sent to your NYITCOM e-mail account bimonthly. We wish you a meaningful and satisfying experience at NYITCOM.

We also welcome our new faculty members and invite you to visit us at NYITCOM - Rockefeller Building.

clinicalkey

Clinical Key

Our institution now subscribes to ClinicalKey, an online search tool to the most current, evidence-based answers available for all medical and surgical specialties, including over 1,000 books, 500 top books, over 500 top journals and over 13,000 procedural videos.

As of September 2013, the library will end its subscription to MDConsult.

Medical Library: Rules and Regulations

Laptops: There are 50 laptops available to borrow for three hours, renewals are allowed as needed. A $ 5.00 fine will be charged per hour for any laptop that is returned late.

Reserve Books: The Reserve book collection is only for use in the library and available for 3 hours. A $1.00 fine per hour will be charged if returned late.

ID Card Rules: In order to enter the library and use library materials, please make sure you are wearing your student ID card. This policy is being observed and enforced at the library. Only a valid student ID card will be accepted for checkout.

Print Control: Medical students now have 300 print credits on their card which should last until next summer
Health Professions students have 50 print credits until December and their cards will be replenished with 50 credits after the winter break. Anything above that will be the responsibility of the student, payable via FLEX funds. To view the chart for printing fees click here.

Mobile Teaching & Learning In Action

The Mobile Librarian

Beginning Fall 2013-2014 academic year, the librarians at NYIT/COM will be taking the concept of library beyond place to the forefront. Using wireless laptop and iPad, librarians are going to position themselves at the students' gathering places, to assist those who drop-in with their specific need for information about library online collection and resources. Stay tuned for dates, times and locations to be announced soon.

PubMed Training:

There will be a series of hands-on workshops for PubMed Basic and PubMed Advanced classes. The time and locations for both classes will be announced soon.

NMNI Journal

New Microbe New Infections Launched!

The European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases &Wiley announced the launch of New Microbes and New Infections. NMNI is an Open Access Journal with a focus on new genomes, new microbes and new technology applied to the diagnosis of infectious and tropical diseases. For full details click here.

 

 


Online Resource @ Point-of-Care

UpToDate

UpToDate is an evidence-based, physician-authored clinical knowledge system for clinicians to make decision at point-of-care. It covers more than 9,000 topics in 19 medical specialties and includes over 77,000 pages of text and graphics, 328,000+ Medline references and a drug database.

To access UpToDate on your mobile device follow these steps:
-Go into UpToDate through medical Library website
-Select UpToDate under Popular Resources
-Once at the initial page of UpToDate, click on Log In/Register button.
-Create a username and password for yourself
-Download the UpToDate app from the iTunes store.
-Log into UpToDate from the App.
-Be aware that the subscription expires every 30 days so make sure that you re-register your account every 30 days to keep it active.


GreyLiterature

Grey Literature Report is a bimonthly publication of the New York Academy of Medicine Library alerting readers to new grey literature publications in health services research and selected public health topics. Grey Literature Report is a tool to fill the gaps in your public health research. Here are the links to selected reports in July issue:

Website Review

MentalHealth

U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has announced the launch of MentalHealth.gov as an online resource for people looking for information about mental health. This website provides information about the signs of mental illness, how individuals can seek help, and how communities can host conversations about mental health. The website also features videos from a
number of individuals sharing their stories about mental illness, recovery, and hope.

The library, also provides subscription to related databases including PsychArticles & Psychology Collections both listed in Health Sciences Databases on library webpage.


Cochrane Collection Plus

EBM Reviews: Cochrane Collection Plus

Beginning September 2013, the Medical library will end its subscription to EBM Reviews through Ovid, and will replace it with the Cochrane Collection Plus by EBSCOHost.

Cochrane Collection Plus is a combination of top publications including : NHS Economic Evaluation Database (NHS EED) and Health Technology Assessments (HTA) with the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews (CDSR), Database of Abstracts of Reviews Effects (DARE), Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials and Cochrane Methodology Register.

Spirituality in Healthcare is an authorative reference, and an attempt to publish a standard text on the relation between spirituality and healthcare, besides the growing corpus of articles in medical and healthcare journals. The book is divided into six sections including practice, research, policy, training, and more. It is available at the medical library with call number: BL 65 .M4 O94 2012

Due to high demand the library will be open on Labor Day Holiday weekend, Saturday August 31st through Monday Sept., 2nd from 12 noon to 8pm.

We'll resume our normal hours on Tuesday September 3rd.
