Women in Medicine In 1892 the very first class of the nation’s first Osteopathic school in Kirksville, MO consisted of 17 students. Five of these students were women. Upon graduation in 1895, Dr. Andrew Taylor Still, founder of Osteopathic Medicine stated: “ I would like to say a few words in regards to women who have been students in my school. I have had experience with them and find that they learn anatomy easily, retain it well, and soon learn to apply their knowledge in the rooms of our clinics. They have shown their ability to easily detect the abnormal at any and all parts of the body, in nerves, veins, arteries, muscles, ligaments, or bones. They are a success.” Today in harmony with the rebirth of nature, we invite you to visit the National Library Medicine exhibit, which celebrates the lives and careers of some of America’s extraordinary women physicians who in many ways have influenced and enhanced the practice of medicine. |
Sage Sayings of Dr. Andrew Taylor Still "A few years spent in the school of Nature teaches the Osteopath that principles govern the Universe, and he must obey all orders or fail to cure his patients." " woman is finer principled than man, she is sensory, man motor. He is motor, she is intellectual." Thruhlar Robert E. Doctor A.T. Still in the living. Chagrin Falls, Ohio, 1950. Did you know..
