Information belongs to the author or publisher. Whenever you use information in your assignments or study, you must use it according to the law and ethical standards. All written assignments will require you to cite and reference your sources appropriately. The following issues will be considered:

  • Copyright/Plagiarism
  • Privacy/Security
  • Censorship/freedom of speech

In this module, you will learn to:

  • Apply the United States of America laws of information use and misuse

  • Understand what information you can legally copy, under American law

  • Quote and cite information appropriately

  • Find information about citation and referencing styles for your assignments

  • Understand the concepts of security and privacy of information on the Internet

  • Understand the concepts of censorship and freedom of information, especially as they apply to the Internet
