B. What resources does
the NYIT Journal Locator cover?
Coverage includes journals indexed in our full text databases, online
subscriptions, and print subscriptions from the Central Islip and Wisser Libraries.
For a complete print subscription index search the library catalog by periodical
title. Availability of an individual title from any particular publisher
or database is subject to change with little or no prior notice. Individual
journals may not be included in their entirety.
C. How often is it
updated?
The Journal Locator page is updated on a daily basis.
D. How do I use the
it?
Browse the alphabetical list for the journal title you require and
click the appropriate link (either to the journal itself or to the database
that indexes the journal in question). If the link takes you to the journal
itself, it is simply a matter of browsing for the correct issue and locating
the article. If the link takes you to a full text database, you will need to
perform a search for the journal or article in question.
E. Who can access these
resources?
The resources listed here are licensed for use only by current students,
faculty, and staff of the New York Institute of Technology. This means that
your workstation must be directly connected to the campus network (i.e. within
the nyit.edu domain) to gain access. If you are off-campus or are using a third
party Internet Service Provider (AOL, RoadRunner, etc.) you will need to log
in to the Library's proxy server before trying to access these materials.
F. What if the journal
I need is not listed in the Locator?
If the journal you are looking for is not listed or if the dates of
coverage are not appropriate to your needs, check the NYIT
Library Catalog for traditional print subscriptions. If the journal is not
in our collection, NYIT students and faculty may wish to request the item through
interlibrary loan. Library staff at any reference service point can help you
find alternate sources of information. If the journal you need is listed here
but you find that it is no longer available in the database indicated, please
let us know so that we can make the necessary updates.
G. What do I do if
I encounter a username/password prompt?
The resources listed here are licensed for use only by current students,
faculty, and staff of the New York Institute of Technology. Authorized users
should refer to the Instructions for Remote Access to Databases to learn how
to gain access from off-campus locations. If after following the instructions
you are still unable to access these materials please request assistance from
our Ask a Librarian Page.
H. What do I do if
I am asked for a credit card number?
Some of the online service providers listed here offer services beyond
those included in the New York Institute of Technology subscriptions. You are
welcome to take advantage of those services that interest you at your own expense,
but please keep in mind that the Library can often assist you in finding alternate
free or low-cost resources for the information you need. Ask at any reference
service point.
Visit or e-mail the reference desk for assistance in using this resource or
identifying alternate sources of information.
