Digital Sandborn Maps: 1967-1970Digital Sanborn Maps
Sanborn Maps of the Borough of Manhattan are now available electronically at the Central Ilsip, Manhattan and Education Hall Libraries. They include large-scale plans containing data that can be used to estimate the potential risk for urban structures. This includes information such as the outline of each building, the size, shape and construction materials, heights, and function of structures, location of windows and doors. The maps also provide street names, street and sidewalk widths, property boundaries, building use, and house and block number. In the form of bitmap images, this is an excellent resource for architects.

World Trade Center Design Poll
Library patrons were asked to vote for their World Trade Center design of choice with the following results:

1. Studio Daniel Libeskind
2. United Architects & Foster & Partners (tie)
3. Skidmore, Owings & Merril
4. Think
5. Richard Meier & Partners
There was one vote to rebuild the old towers.

The poll was conducted during February and March. The results mirrored the choice of the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation which selected Studio Daniel Libeskind's design.



PubMed
PubMed, available via the NCBI Entrez retrieval system, was developed by the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) at the National Library of Medicine (NLM), located at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). PubMed was designed to provide access to citations from biomedical literature.

Ostmed: The Osteopathic Literature Database
Ostmed: The Osteopathic Literature Database is a bibliographic index to the osteopathic medicine literature. Sponsored by the American Osteopathic Association and the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine, Ostmed was originally developed by the Gibson D. Lewis Health Science Library of the University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth (UNTHSC-FW) in conjunction with the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine's (KCOM) A.T. Still Memorial Library. Ostmed is currently housed and maintained by UNTHSC-FW.

Twayne Authors Series - Twayne World, English, and US Authors
Twayne World, US, and English Authors each contains the full text of 200 frequently used Twayne Literary Masters books on individual World, US, or English authors, for a total of 600 individual full-text titles.

Clinical Pharmacology
Clinical Pharmacology provides access to up-to-date, concise and clinically-relevant drug monographs for all U.S. prescription drugs, hard-to-find herbal and nutritional supplements, over-the-counter products and new investigational drugs.

ACM Digital Library (Association for Computing Machinery)
Bibliographic information, abstracts, reviews, and the fulltext for articles published in ACM periodicals and proceedings since its founding in 1947 are available together with selected works published by affiliated organizations.

As of October 15, 2002, the Digital Library contains:

  1. Over 102,500 full-text articles from journals, magazines, and conference proceedings.
  2. Tables of Contents with over 33,000 citations from articles published in journals and magazines from 1954 forward.
  3. Tables of contents with more than 69,000 citations from articles published in over 1100 volumes of conference proceedings since 1970.
  4. About one half million article references for ACM articles are available with about 200,000 links to full bibliographic information for those references, with 50,000 further links to full text.
  5. Users will also find a growing set of forward links or "Citings" to articles that were published subsequent to the one they are looking at and which reference it.

Britannica Online
Encyclopædia Britannica Online includes the complete encyclopedia, as well as Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary and Thesaurus, Britannica Student Encyclopedia and the Britannica Book of the Year. You can also use Encyclopædia Britannica Online to search an Internet directory that includes more than 300,000 links to Web sites selected, rated, and reviewed by Britannica editors.

Through this service, you can find more than 118,000 articles, updated and revised by Encyclopædia Britannica editors and contributors; over 14,000 illustrations, including photographs, drawings, maps, and flags; and more than 215,000 entries--including definitions, pronunciation guides, and word histories--from Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary and Thesaurus.

IEEE Xplore
Provides full-text access to IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc.) and IEE journals, magazines, conference proceedings, and standards published since 1988. Covers electrical and computer engineering, electronics, computer science and physics. Includes more than 4,000 titles with over 520,000 full-text articles, from over 12,000 publications. The IEEE produces approximately 30 percent of the world's published literature on computers, electrical engineering and control technology, holds more than 300 major conferences annually and has more than 860 active standards with 700 under development. A crucial part of the IEEE's mission is to provide highly relevant technical information, and it has implemented a rigorous peer review process to ensure the high quality of its technical material. IEEE publications are highly respected and frequently cited in the industry.
