This guide is meant to be a guide for anyone trying to use their laptop to connect to our campus wireless network.
Here is what you will need to have:
- Wireless-enabled laptop: This means that you must have a laptop with wireless capability built-in, or you must have an external wireless card. NOTE: The card must be compatible with the 802.11b signal! That is, the card must say “802.11a”, “802.11b” or 802.11g” on it.
- Wireless network name: NYIT
- Your NYIT Connect Username and Password: If you are a student here at NYIT, you’re NYIT Username and Password usually is the same as your NYIT Connect login. If you have forgotten your Username and Password, please contact Registrar Office at (516-686-7580) for assistance.
Configure Microsoft Vista for Wireless Internet:
Windows Vista contains a built-in Wireless Connection. Follow the steps below to configure a wireless connection using Windows Vista.
1. Click the Windows logo on the Start Menu and choose: Control Panel or Settings > Control Panel.

2. Click View network status and tasks or

Click Network and Sharing Center

3. Click Setup a connection or network.
4. Click manually connects to a wireless network and click Next.
5. Enter the Network name: NYIT
6. Click the Security type drop-down menu and Select No Authentication (Open)

7. Complete the tasks in this window:
- Enable Start this connection automatically (MUST be checked or user will have manually connect each time.)
- Only enable Connect even if the network is not broadcasting.
8. Click Next to Connect.


9. Click Connect Anyway
10. This window may appear if this is the first Network Location created on this computer.
Choose Customize the name, location type, and icon for the network.
Select an Appropriate name for the Network Location. (Ex. School).
11. The computer now connected wirelessly to the NYIT network.

12. Click the Close button to Save and Start the Connection automatically.
