David Friello Name: David Friello
Title: HVAC / ApplicancesEngineer
Bio: David Friello is the safety team coordinator and an HVAC/Engineering Team member. He is a graduate student working on a master's degree in energy management and an advanced certificate in environmental management. He received his Bachelor of Science in environmental science at the University at Albany, SUNY in December 2002. He also holds certification in geographical information systems and spatial analysis. He hopes to use the knowledge he has gained to promote sustainable development through new technologies and proper management of natural resources.

Nikos Koundourakis Name: Nikos Koundourakis
Title: Engineering Systems
Bio: Nikos Koundourakis is a Mechanical Engineering student with a concentration in Aerospace. His lifelong aspiration is to become an astronaut and go into outer space. Nikos is a member of the Energy Management and Engineering team of NYIT's Solar Decathlon Team. He is also certified to install the PV panels on the solar house. Nikos graduated high school from the 4th Lyceum of Chania in Greece.

Bio:

Christopher Locovare joined the Decathlon team in October 2004 to work with the hot water supply group as well as co-author the Safety Plan and Site Operations Plan. Chris graduated NYIT in June 2005 with a Mechanical Technology Engineering degree while being married, raising two children and living in Bay Shore, NY. After working for Lockheed Martin for 19 years and founding HarleyShirts.com in 1996, Chris now works at New York City Transit in Manhattan .

   
Sidney McCleary Name: Sidney McCleary
Title: Advisor
Bio: Sidney McCleary, President & COO of EmPower CES, has significant experience in Architecture and Design, Planning, Marketing and Government Relations. After graduating with Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Architecture from Yale University , he has completed several architectural projects in his personal practice. Mr. McCleary was selected as the third Wagner Fellow for Policy at the Alliance for the Arts, where he acquired significant marketing and government relations experience. He is certified by the US Green Building Council as a LEED Accredited Professional and continues to assist NYIT in a limited advisory capacity for the Department of Energy's Solar Decathlon.

Bio: Jay Parikh, moved back 4 years ago from Ahmedabad, India to Long Island, NY. Currently, he is in his senior year studying Mechanical Engineering with an Aerospace concentration. Jay holds great ambitions and has dreams of working in the field of Aeronautics / Aerospace. Jay is helping the Engineering team as a fuel cell technician.

Bio: Dan Rapka graduated from Bucknell University with a BS in Mechanical Engineering. Over the next decade, Dan gathered professional experience in the world of engineering as well as in carpentry and woodworking. Armed with this varied background, Dan joined NYIT as a Lab Technician in the Mechanical Engineering Department and began a MS in Energy Management. For this Solar Decathlon competition, he has contributed to several metalworking and welding projects to help realize the blue space + green machine vision.
   
Greg Sachs Name: Greg Sachs
Title: Lead Engineer
Bio: Greg Sachs is the Lead Engineer for the NYIT Solar Decathlon home. He is from the United States Merchant Marine Academy, which is a collaborating institution for this project. Greg is the co-founder and Project Manager of the Academy's Alternative Power Program. Additionally, he is an instructor of electrical and marine engineering. Formerly Greg was a nuclear engineer and manager at a Navy nuclear power plant. Greg has spent time in numerous locations around the world as an engineer on board large deep-sea merchant ships.
   
Lea Salamoun Name: Lea Salamoun
Title: Electric Car Engineer
Bio: Lea Salamoun graduated from St- Marceline High School in Montreal, Canada and is now a third-year undergraduate Engineering Management student. Fluent in three languages she would like to pursue a career abroad, as a project manager for quality control.
   
Nicholas J. Santino Name: Nicholas J. Santino
Title: Engineering Systems, Construction
Bio: Nicholas J. Santino recently graduated from NYIT in May 2005 with a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering Technology. He currently works for Comtech PST in Melville, New York, testing and repairing solid state amplifiers for the military's mass production of jammers that are being used in the Iraq War. Nick is from Valley Stream, New York. Nick wants to pursue a career in the Electrical Engineering field.
   
David Schieren Name: David Schieren
Title: Energy Team Leader
Bio: David G. Schieren, energy management and engineering team leader, is a graduate student pursuing a Master of Science in energy management. After studying economics and Japanese at the University of Vermont, David joined Merrill Lynch in the international equity sales department where he advised institutional money managers on purchasing Japanese stocks. Concerned about the global political, energy and environmental situation, David left his capital markets job to pursue a career in clean energy. David is from Hewlett Harbor, N.Y., and now resides in Park Slope, Brooklyn, N.Y.
   
Maor Shmul Name: Maor Shmul
Title: Construction Engineer
Bio: Maor is working towards his bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (expected May 2006). He was born and raised in Israel and currently resides in New York City. Maor would like to work for an Architectural Engineering firm in the city and pursue a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering and an MBA. Eventually, he would like to run his own consulting business.

Bio:

After receiving a BA in Earth Systems Science at CW Post, Randy continued his education at NYIT and achieved an MS in Energy Management in 2005. He currently works for a utility managing clean energy projects.

   
Robert Amundsen Name: Robert Amundsen
Title: Engineering Faculty Advisor
Bio: Dr. Robert N. Amundsen completed two bachelor's degrees at the University of Rochester - one in physics and astronomy, and the other in engineering and applied science. He also earned a master's and doctorate in energy management and policy at the University of Pennsylvania . He is director of the energy management master's degree program at NYIT and president of the Long Island Chapter of the Association of Energy Engineers. He has received the Environmental Educator of the Year Award as well as an award for energy professional development. He is a distributed generation certified professional.
