Meet the staff

Dennis Camacho
Director of Student Activities

Dennis Camacho has been in higher education administration for several years. He has worked in the areas of residential life, student activities, fraternity and sorority life, and new student services. He has worked with diverse student populations at Columbia University, University at Stonybrook, St. John’s University-Queens campus, and most recently at his alma mater Hofstra University where he served as the assistant director of student activities. Camacho has a Bachelor of Arts from Hofstra University and dual Master of Arts in higher education administration and secondary math education from Teachers College, Columbia University.

Kristie Damell
Assistant Director of Student Activities

Prior to joining the NYIT staff in February 2007, Kristie Damell worked in greek affairs and residence life at Columbia University while earning a Master of Arts in higher and postsecondary education. Originally from New Jersey, she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in community health education from East Stroudsburg University and spent six years traveling the world as a singer and entertainer. Damell is the advisor for student clubs and organizations, club sports, and Greek life and is the musical director for the NYIT Choir. She loves working in the heart of Manhattan and has a soft spot for Buttercup cupcakes.

Yashesh Shah
Graduate Assistant for Student Publications and Programming

Yashesh Shah is an International student currently pursuing his Masters Degree in Business. Originally from India, he earned a Bachelor of Commerce Degree and spent his time playing cricket and table tennis, where he was the team captain. Currently, Yashesh is the Graduate Assistant in the Office of Student Activities where he assists in planning programs, develops publicity for student clubs, and manages the Student Publications Office. Upon completing his Masters, he would like exposure in the corporate world and eventually hopes to set up his own chain of restaurants.

Clarenda Sosa
Student Aide & Summerfest Coordinator

Hailing from Brooklyn, Clarenda Sosa is a sophomore at NYIT majoring in hospitality management and minoring in communication arts. Her responsibilities include planning events such as trips to museums and theme parks for NYIT students, while still managing to help everyone in the office. She loves planning events and being active. She is also one of the driving forces behind establishing a sorority at the Manhattan campus.
