INTRODUCTION

This project is focused on distance learning computer technology.  It is a study into the world of computer learning.  I want to focus in on the uses of this technology in the area of education.  I want to show how this technology effects the way the schools operate and communicate. I also want to investigate the current status of distance learning and possible future advancements in the system.  In order to focus my research I will ask these questions: What is distance learning?, What are the Pros and Cons of distance learning?, and how does distance learning help educational institutions?  These questions may lead to many other sub topics pertaining to education.  For instance, where is distance learning being used?, how does a school district find out about obtaining information on distance learning?, what are the statistics that distance learning improves education?,  What does this technology cost?, and are there any case studies involving distance learning and education?.  These questions are very important simply because they can give straightforward answers and provide a thorough introduction into the world of distance learning.

RESEARCH

Internet

To compile my information I used the on-line databases to acquire most of my data.  I am familiar with them and have found them to be very accurate and resourceful.  The on-line journals included on the data-bases provide full-text articles, graphs, and statistical data of magazines, journals and newspapers.  The databases I used are: ERIC, which consists of two databases, (RIE) The Resources in Education and (CIJE) Current Index to Journals in Education, Lexis-Nexis (Academic Universe), Proquest Direct, SIRS Government Reporter, Business Index (Infotrac), and Computer Abstract.  I also used many on-line search engines to find information. The ones I used are: Alta Vista, Excite, HotBot, InfoSeek, Lycos, WebCrawler, and Yahoo.  I also researched the on-line libraries to compile even more information on the subject.  I researched on  The Alexandria Digital Library, The Internet Public Library, and The New York Public Library.  These resources provided me with most of the information I needed to present my findings on Distance Learning.

Libraries

I also used many libraries to compile data.  I used these outlets to further my research and reach areas that I could not reach on the Internet.  The library was very useful because it had some books that concentrated mainly on Distance Learning.  The information I found provided a nice supplement to the abundance of information I had already found on the Internet.

EXPECTATIONS

I expect my research to introduce people to distance learning and inform them of the amazing effects technology has on our society.  I expect that they will get an in depth look into the fascinating world of distance learning and be able to understand the uses it has in the educational institutions.

PRESENTATION

 Web Site Overview

My web site is an a introduction into the world of distance learning.  It was created to provide a valid, accurate, and objective outlet into the many facets of  the technology.  While designing my web site I paid particular attention to the navigational components.  With my web site I wanted to ensure that my visitors have no problem accessing any of the information that is available.  I used many links throughout the site and to other web sites to ensure the reader has an easy time navigating and the ability to obtain the information needed.
