Summary:
This website will attempt to show the emotional, political and moral issues involving the ongoing destruction of the forests of the Pacific Northwest. It will outline the history as well as the forests today. One environmental consequence of this destruction is the drinking water and I will explain what is happening. There are a number of endangered species due to overlogging and they are listed and explained. I also have a section on the environmental ethics associated with all non-human beings, animals and plants, soils and waters. The owners of Headwaters Forest, Pacific Lumber Maxxam Corp., the last standing groves of redwoods located in the region of Northern California, will explain their point of view on this issue. I give a brief description of their history also. The townspeople in the area also have a point of view that is mixed. I also tried to explain the misconceptions that people have about the shortage of wood if the logging stops in these forests, and the Northwest Forest Plan that is supposedly in place to protect this wilderness, but does not. There is a list of recommendations that individuals can do if they are interested in helping this cause. As you will see, it is a very controversial issue and apparently not so easy to rectify. There are a lot of determinants to think about in developing ones own point of view.
