NYCOMEC institutions are equal opportunity employers;
applicants are considered without regard to race, religion, gender, national
origin, age, or marital status.
Applications for internship and residency training can be
obtained through the Department of Medical Education at each institution, or
from the NYCOMEC Office.
All applicants beginning a NYCOMEC internship program must
show proof of graduation from an AOA accredited college of osteopathic
medicine.
Acceptance to a NYCOMEC residency or fellowship training
program is contingent upon satisfactory completion of an AOA approved
internship program.
NYCOMEC institutions will provide each intern/resident with
a written agreement or contract outlining the terms and conditions of their
appointment to an educational program.
The agreement will specify the intern/resident rights and
responsibilities, financial support and benefits to be provided, duration of
appointment and condition for reappointment, policies regarding professional
activities outside the educational program, work hours and call requirements,
procedures for discipline and redress of grievances, and policies and
procedures whereby complaints of sexual harassment and exploitation may be
addressed in a manner consistent with the law and due process. NYCOMEC is not a party to any agreement
between or among the hospital or institution and Intern/Resident.
Each NYCOMEC institution will provide curriculum and
rotation schedules for interns/residents in an osteopathic postdoctoral
training program.
Each NYCOMEC postdoctoral program may elect one
intern/resident to be a member of NYCOMEC’s Intern/Resident Committee. The elected chairman of this committee will
serve as a member of NYCOMEC’s Education Committee.
Following successful completion of postdoctoral training at
a NYCOMEC member institution, NYCOMEC will confer certificates on interns,
residents, and fellows that have been recommended for graduation by their
Director of Medical Education/Program Director.
Interns/residents interested in transferring to a NYCOMEC
program must present a letter documenting the rotations satisfactorily completed
at other AOA or ACGME approved programs.
Training needs to be documented and approved by their new Director of
Medical Education/Program Director. In
order for NYCOMEC to issue certification of completion of a NYCOM sponsored
program, interns/residents must complete at least 50% of their postdoctoral
program at a NYCOMEC member institution.
Those institutions operating within the boundaries of New
York State must comply with the New York State Department of Health Regulations
regarding work hours for residents in training [10NYCRR, Section 405.4 (b) (6)
& (f) (3)].
Should an emergency situation arise during an academic year rendering a member institution unable to fulfill its obligation to continue the training of its interns/residents, NYCOMEC will make every possible attempt to find alternative training for the interns/residents at other NYCOMEC institutions, to the extent allowable by law and AOA policies.
