The book is interesting and current. Even if you do not buy the text, you may visit the web site and use its resources. I have a number of assignments keyed to the web site. The Web site for this text is: http://www.sp.uconn.edu/~djleu/fourth.html

The Web site is organized by book chapter and has a very large list of Web sites and resources. Each chapter on the Web site mirrors the actual text and provides major points of the text and lists additional resources and Web sites. In fact, the Web site could be used instead of the text. It gives examples from classrooms, provides ideas for projects, and lists a large number of additional Web sites. Refer to each chapter as you prepare materials for the course. While the text is recommended the Web site for the book is required.

Internet in Easy Steps

Recommended text: Lojkine, Mary, 2003, Internet in easy steps. Barnes & Noble Books: New York
http://www.ineasysteps.com

This Web site is more like a publisher's advertisementthan an education info guide, but it tells you about the book, provides a list of chapters, gives a good book description and also refers to other related Internet books.

This book has two strong selling points. First, it is an excellent how to book for beginners. It covers the basics about connecting to the Internet and moving around. Second, it provides an excellent Worldwide Web Guide with a list of about 500 up to date Web sites. The Web sites fall into the following categories: News, Information, Science and Technology, Entertainment, Recreation, Lifestyle, and Shopping and Services. The third selling point is the price. The book can be obtained from any Barnes & Noble book store for about $10. Pick it up and surf around the net.
